Will Whitson Lands Spot on Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List as Coastal Carolina Gears Up for Season Opener

Coastal Carolina's Will Whitson has caught the eye of scouts nationwide, earning a place on the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List, as revealed by the organization on Wednesday. This accolade adds to an already impressive preseason for Whitson, who was earlier recognized as a second-team All-Sun Belt selection.

Whitson, who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, made significant contributions to Coastal Carolina's defense last season, appearing in all 13 games. The graduate student racked up 42 tackles, including 19 solo stops, 5.0 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks, while also applying consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks with five hurries. His stellar performance last year also earned him spots on the East-West Shrine 1000 List, the first-team Phil Steele preseason All-Sun Belt team, and a fourth-team nod from Athlon Sports.

As Coastal Carolina prepares to kick off its season next Thursday night against Jacksonville State, Whitson's inclusion on the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List sets the stage for what could be a breakout year. The Senior Bowl, renowned as the premier college football all-star game and a crucial step in the NFL Draft journey, will be held in Mobile, Alabama, marking its 75th anniversary. This event, which last year produced 110 NFL draft picks, including 43 percent of the total selections, is a major spotlight for rising stars like Whitson.

With NFL scouts and media from across the nation closely monitoring his performance, Whitson’s upcoming season will be one to watch as Coastal Carolina looks to make waves in the Sun Belt Conference. The Chanticleers' season opener is set for 8:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
