Texas State Football Shines with 12 Players Named to Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Preseason Team

Texas State football fans have much to look forward to this season, as 12 Bobcats have earned spots on the Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Preseason Team. This recognition highlights the team's strength and individual talent heading into the 2024 season.

Leading the charge are the five Bobcats who received First-Team honors. Senior quarterback Jordan McCloud is set to drive the offense, joined by junior running back Ismail Mahdi, whose agility and power make him a key playmaker. Senior wide receiver Joey Hobert brings reliability and explosive potential to the passing game. On the defensive side, senior defensive end Ben Bell is expected to be a formidable presence, while junior kicker Mason Shipley will anchor the special teams unit.

The Second-Team features a blend of offensive prowess and defensive strength. Senior tight end Konner Fox, known for his blocking and receiving capabilities, and senior offensive lineman Nash Jones, a stalwart in the trenches, are crucial for the Bobcats' offensive success. On defense, senior safety Kaleb Culp is poised to make significant contributions, and junior wide receiver Kole Wilson, noted for his versatility, rounds out the team’s offensive threats.

Rounding out the honors, senior safety Tory Spears and senior defensive end Steven Parker earned spots on the Fourth-Team, adding depth and experience to the Bobcats’ roster.

Texas State’s anticipation for the upcoming season is further heightened by the inaugural home game at the newly named UFCU Stadium, set for August 31 against Lamar University. This match will not only showcase the team's new talent and veterans but also mark a new chapter in the Bobcats' history at their home venue.

As the season approaches, Texas State’s preseason accolades hint at a promising campaign ahead, with players across all positions ready to leave their mark on the Sun Belt Conference.
