Tennessee Cornerback Cristian Conyer Transfers to Coastal Carolina

Tennessee football cornerback Cristian Conyer has announced his decision to transfer to Coastal Carolina. This move comes after Conyer's freshman season with the Volunteers, where he appeared in ten games, predominantly contributing on special teams.

Despite being a three-star recruit in the 2023 class, Conyer's opportunities at Tennessee were limited due to a veteran-laden secondary and significant offseason changes. After spring practice, he was projected to be on the third team, facing stiff competition from newly added transfers and other talented underclassmen. The Vols bolstered their secondary by bringing in Jermod McCoy from Oregon State and Jalen McMurray from Temple during the winter transfer portal window. Additionally, sophomore Rickey Gibson and fellow 2023 signee Jordan

Matthews were also in the mix for key roles at cornerback. With three seasons of eligibility still ahead, Conyer's transfer to Coastal Carolina presents a fresh start and potentially more playing time. His departure, along with linebacker Elijah Herring, marks the only two players from Tennessee to enter the transfer portal during the spring window. Conyer's move is a strategic decision to find a better fit and opportunity to contribute significantly on the field.
