South Carolina Lands Future QB Cutter Woods for 2025 Class

South Carolina football just secured a major building block for its future. Cutter Woods, a standout quarterback from Westside High School, has committed to the Gamecocks for the 2025 recruiting class, becoming the first QB to join South Carolina’s roster for that year. Woods announced his commitment on Monday, shifting gears from his initial pledge to Wake Forest back in April.

Woods’ journey to Columbia was swift and decisive. The Gamecocks extended an offer just over a week ago after a standout performance at a 7-on-7 camp. Woods quickly followed up with an official visit last weekend, spending time with head coach Shane Beamer and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains.

“It was really nice, and I really enjoyed Coach Loggins and Coach Beamer and enjoyed being with some of their players,” Woods shared. “They let me know what the QB room looks like, where I fit in, and how I fit into their offense.”

The Gamecocks’ coaching staff got a good look at Woods last December at the 4A state championship game, where they were primarily scouting defensive tackle Amare Adams, who later committed to Clemson. Despite the focus on Adams, Woods’ performance was impossible to ignore. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback led Westside to a dramatic comeback victory, driving 78 yards in less than three minutes and throwing a game-winning pass on 4th and 2 with just 15 seconds remaining.

Woods’ junior season stats reflect his high-caliber play. Completing nearly 70% of his passes, Woods amassed 3,915 yards and threw 42 touchdowns, earning the MaxPreps South Carolina High School Football Player of the Year title. His state championship performance garnered offers from schools like Syracuse, Auburn, and East Carolina, but it was South Carolina's recent offer and visit that sealed the deal.

During his visit, Loggains showcased how Woods’ skill set would fit seamlessly into South Carolina’s offensive scheme by drawing parallels between Woods’ high school film and the Gamecocks’ game footage.

“Coach Loggins showed me a clip from my high school film and then their film and how it relates and how my skill set can fit into their offense,” Woods explained.

Woods joins an already impressive list of commitments in South Carolina’s 2025 class, which includes top-ranked in-state talent. His commitment marks the second time in three years that the top-ranked quarterback in South Carolina has chosen to play for the Gamecocks, following LaNorris Sellers' signing in 2023.
