Packers Lock Down Jordan Love with Historic $220 Million Extension

The Green Bay Packers have secured their future by signing quarterback Jordan Love to a groundbreaking four-year, $220 million contract extension. This move places Love among the elite as one of the highest-paid players in NFL history, a milestone reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Friday and confirmed by the team on Saturday.

Love’s new contract not only matches the financial heights reached by Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals but also includes an unprecedented $75 million signing bonus. The deal, orchestrated by agents David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler of Athletes First, averages out to an impressive $55 million per year.

With this agreement in place, Love will return to training camp, having previously held out until the contract details were finalized. This extension marks a significant step for Love, who had taken a gamble on himself with a smaller contract last year as he prepared for his first season as the Packers' starting quarterback.

The specifics of Love's contract highlight its historic nature:

A $75 million signing bonus paid in three installments.

A fully guaranteed 2024 base salary of $3.5 million.

Incremental workout and per-game roster bonuses across the contract's duration.

Substantial base salaries, including $49.9 million in 2026 and $41.9 million in 2027, with portions guaranteed against injury and becoming fully guaranteed over time.

Performance-based incentives, such as $250,000 Pro Bowl escalators for 2025 through 2028, with a potential $1.25 million upside.

In total, the extension combines with Love’s existing 2024 salary, resulting in a five-year package worth $230.5 million, averaging $46.1 million annually. The deal guarantees $100.8 million at signing, with practical guarantees reaching $140.3 million, and could escalate to $160.3 million after two seasons.

This significant financial commitment solidifies Love’s position with the Packers for at least three years. Should the team opt to release him post-2026, they would still face $20 million in guaranteed salary for 2027, underscoring the organization's commitment to their quarterback.

By making Love one of the highest-paid players in the league, the Packers are clearly placing their faith in his abilities to lead the team into a new era, following the departure of long-time quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The move signals a strong vote of confidence in Love's potential to deliver success on the field.
