Coastal Carolina Stages Thrilling Comeback to Secure 28-24 Victory over Old Dominion

Coastal Carolina quarterback Ethan Vasko orchestrated a remarkable late-game surge, accounting for 350 total yards and two touchdowns, including a clutch 14-yard scoring pass to Sam Pinckney with just 23 seconds left, propelling the Chanticleers to a thrilling 28-24 victory over Old Dominion this past Saturday. The contest, characterized by a dramatic back-and-forth battle, saw Coastal Carolina (6-3, 4-2 Sun Belt Conference) trailing throughout most of the game, finally securing their first lead in the closing moments. Vasko, a key figure in the Chanticleers' resilient comeback, engineered a seven-play, 78-yard drive that unfolded in just 57 seconds. The turning point came when Vasko connected with Kyre Duplessis for a game-changing 32-yard reception.

Throughout the game, the Chanticleers faced adversity, trailing 21-6. However, Vasko displayed his explosive talent when he sprinted down the left sideline for a remarkable 75-yard touchdown, breathing new life into Coastal Carolina's hopes with only 1:42 remaining in the third quarter. With the scoreline tied at 21, CJ Beasley's 17-yard run in the middle of the fourth quarter, followed by Vasko's successful 2-point conversion, evened the odds and set the stage for an intense finish.

Old Dominion (4-5, 3-3) fought valiantly, with Ethan Sanchez nailing a crucial 38-yard field goal with just 1:24 left on the clock. It appeared that the Monarchs might hold on for the win, but the Chanticleers had other plans. Vasko, under immense pressure, remained poised and led his team down the field on a game-winning drive. In total, Vasko passed for 180 yards, including the crucial touchdown, and carried the ball 21 times for a staggering 170 yards, highlighted by his electrifying 75-yard scoring run. His exceptional dual-threat abilities were on full display as he carried the Chanticleers to victory.

On the opposing side, Old Dominion's Grant Wilson also played an integral role, throwing for 172 yards and delivering three touchdowns. Despite Wilson's solid performance, it was Coastal Carolina and Ethan Vasko's late-game heroics that ultimately stole the spotlight and secured a memorable win.

The game will undoubtedly be remembered as a hard-fought battle, showcasing the resilience and determination of both teams. For Coastal Carolina, it marks a crucial victory as they continue to make their presence felt in the Sun Belt Conference.
