Chris Olave Eyes Elevation: Saints' Star Receiver Aims to Reach Elite Status in 2024

Since being drafted 11th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Chris Olave has not only met but exceeded expectations with the New Orleans Saints. In his first two seasons, Olave consistently demonstrated his receiving prowess by surpassing the 1,000-yard mark each year. As the Saints' newly anointed No. 1 wideout, Olave is gearing up to take his game to the next level in 2024.

Appearing on The Insiders on NFL Network, Olave expressed his determination to ascend from a good player to one of the elite receivers in the league. "Just going into this offseason knowing that [the Saints] believe in me as the Receiver 1, I'm excited to get to work," Olave said. "I'm trying to take that next step forward and be one of the top receivers in the game."

Olave’s impressive 2023 season, featuring 87 catches for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns, underscored his significant role in the Saints' offense. Despite occasional inconsistencies, particularly in his connection with quarterback Derek Carr, Olave’s contribution kept the Saints' passing game competitive.

Entering the 2024 season, Olave’s focus is on consistency and expanding his skill set. "I want to improve 'really everywhere,'" he noted. This offseason, he's been proactive, participating in OTAs despite a minor shoulder tweak, and he remains optimistic about his recovery with training camp still a month away.

Comparing Olave's early career stats to past Saints greats reveals his substantial impact. Notably, he became New Orleans' first receiver in two years to hit 1,000 yards, affirming the franchise's confidence in him. Olave’s critical self-assessment and relentless work ethic have been instrumental in overcoming last season's challenges and emerging as a key player for the Saints.

The arrival of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak brings additional promise. Kubiak's offensive strategies could further unlock Olave’s potential, drawing parallels to Justin Jefferson's breakout under Kubiak’s guidance in Minnesota. Olave, who has bulked up this offseason, is enthusiastic about the new offense and anticipates it will enhance his chemistry with Carr, leading to more explosive plays and yardage after the catch.

With his rookie contract approaching its end in 2025, a standout 2024 season could position Olave for a lucrative extension. More importantly, his elevated performance could be pivotal in propelling the Saints back into playoff contention. As Olave sets his sights on becoming elite, the potential for both individual and team success seems boundless.
