"Bo Knows: Broncos Pin Hopes on Rookie QB for 2024 Season"

The Denver Broncos have officially turned the reins of their offense over to rookie quarterback Bo Nix, marking a significant moment in franchise history. Head coach Sean Payton confirmed the decision on Wednesday, naming Nix as the starter for the 2024 season opener.

"We're excited about Bo leading our team," Payton stated. "This quarterback room has been competitive, with guys like Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson pushing each other. But Bo has shown he's ready to take charge."

Nix’s promotion isn’t a shock to those who have followed his journey. The former Oregon star, drafted 12th overall this year, has drawn praise from Payton since the moment he was selected. Now, he’ll become the first rookie quarterback to start Week 1 for the Broncos since the legendary John Elway.

"To be mentioned alongside a player like John Elway is incredible," Nix said. "But it’s not about when you start; it’s about what you do when you get that chance. My focus is on helping this team win right out of the gate."

Nix’s preseason performances only solidified Payton’s confidence. Over two games, the rookie completed 23 of 33 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Broncos on six scoring drives. While the competition might not have been top-tier, Nix displayed poise, accuracy, and the ability to make plays under pressure—all qualities that align with Payton’s offensive philosophy.

The Broncos' quarterback competition featured Nix, Stidham, and Wilson, with Wilson exiting the race during training camp. Stidham, despite his experience in Payton's system, couldn't outperform the rookie sensation. As a result, the decision to start Nix became inevitable.

"Bo’s shown he’s ready," Payton added. "We’ve been patient with this process, letting the competition play out. Bo’s growth has been impressive, and while there’s still plenty for him to learn, we believe he’s the right choice to lead us into the season."

The Nix era officially begins on September 8th, when the Broncos face the Seahawks in Seattle. With high expectations and a storied franchise behind him, all eyes will be on Bo Nix as he embarks on his NFL journey.
